Long Travel Performance Ball Joint Suspension
Obsessed Motorsports & Fabrication has looked at building a suspension system for the 1984-1995 Toyota 2wd pickups for some time. Well that system has finally arrived. The OMF Performance Kit for the 1984-1995 Toyota 2wd Pickup uses factory ball joints and has 11” of travel at bump. Lift has been build into this kit to create more ground clearance. The kit includes a completely fabricated strut frame, upper and lower control arms, and steering extenders. All mounting hardware, bushings, and stainless steel braided brake lines are also included. This kit reuses factory mounting locations and is completely bolt on (some drilling required) and thus allows for simple and easy re-alignment.
The strut frame mounts to the lower arm cross member and the front frame cross member. This design allows for maximum ground clearance while providing additional strength to the front end. Tabs on the strut frame allow for the installation of a skid plate. The upper and lower control arms are each extended 3” for a total of 6” in increased track width. The upper tubed arm and the lower boxed control arm both retain the original ball joints. However, earlier model trucks (1984-1988) pickups must convert to later model (1985-1995) lower ball joints. The Lower control arm is fully boxed and gusseted. The lower control arm is designed to accept either a single 2.5” or dual 2.0” shocks. A custom upper shock mount (hoop) must be fabricated in order to use the single 2.5” or coil over option. Recommended shock travel length of 8” or 10”. This kit retains the original bump stops but can be replaced by new urethane ones.
OMF offers several upgrade options to tune this kit to your needs. OMF strongly suggest adding our replacement billet cross shaft for the upper control arm. This optional upgrade is recommended on any long travel system for these trucks as it is a factory weak spot. If you want increased ride height and tire clearance then our 3” Lift Spindle is perfect addition to your system. Without a lift spindle 1984-1988 trucks will need a 2-3” body lift to clear a 31” tire.
